Still getting the odd error here n there. Nothing too substantial, but it seems to be people on slow connections, and IE users, mainly.

If it's too much of a problem, and you have to use dial-up, probably best trying a different browser, such as Firefox, or the new (ad-free) version of Opera.

Personally, I use Avant Browser, which I think is great. It still makes use of IE though, so I get the error occasionally.

Hostboard have included an Active X script on
this contraption of theirs, which, regardless
of whether you've upgraded to XP Pro or not,
older computers don't like, especially if your
browsing with IE. The worst that normally happens,
though, is the script (which is to do with updating
their ads) will try and open Adobe's PDF Reader,
which clogs everything up. The only useable solu-
tion is to turn Active X off:

Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom Level,
and click Disable 'Run Active X controls and
plug-ins'. IE will keep pestering you to turn
it on, but don't - Yahoo Mail runs better with
it on, though, but at least IE won't crash whilst
rummaging around Glitzine.

Aha - that could explain a lot. Did play around with ActiveX the other day and have been getting error messages ever since. Cheers for the tip.

The quickest solution of all, of course, is
to switch to Firefox.

I took a look at Firefox when it first came out, and I wasn't too keen. However, I'm currently giving it another chance, and I must say I'm really liking it now.

I became disillusioned with the e-mail client I was using, so thought I'd give Thunderbird a try. It was that which prompted me to give Firefox a second bite. Getting to grips with all these quirky extensions and themes now. Got any recommendations, Daz?

Yeah, been through a lot of the stuff. I like the clean lines of iTunes, personally. If only everything came in the brushed ally and blue-glass scrollbars. The themes I checked out didn't really cut it (iFox, Brushed, GrayModern, that kind of thing). I do like the Qute-ish style of the default theme on the latest Thunderbird, so ended up sticking with Qute on Firefox too. Had plumped for Qute on Opera in the past.

Re:extensions.. I decided to stick with things I need, such as IE view (Virgin Mobile website is a bugger for overlaying), WellRounded URL and search bars look better, Show Image/Image Toolbar (for reloading pics. Good for slow connections), and Single Window/Tab Mix Plus, for the kind of tabbed browsing I'm used to from Avant Browser.

I think I've succumbed to the dark side.
